On this momentous occasion, I join all proud Americans in celebrating the 250th anniversary of our nation’s birth. I was alive for the 200th, too — though only about ten months old at the time. Doing that math just now, I realized I’ve been alive for 20 percent of the lifespan of the United States. If that doesn’t make a person feel old, nothing will. Even so, these last 50 years have given me a front-row seat to a remarkable stretch of American history.

In that half-century, we’ve gone from the Vietnam War to carrying artificial intelligence around in our pockets — and lived through more history in between than words can capture in a single post. The USA is the greatest nation the world has ever known, and I thank God every day that I’m an American.

I’m a history nut, through and through. I love reading about notable presidents, famous — and not-so-famous — military conflicts, and true crime. I get to read those stories because someone took the time to research them, write them, and publish them.
